Hi! I’m Logan — a man of many trades and hobbies. Over the years, I’ve worked as a Paramedic, Firefighter, Deputy Sheriff, Deputy Coroner, Information Technology Officer, Security Analyst, and the list goes on. My full-time role has primarily been in public safety for the past several years, but my passion for technology has been a constant since I was a teenager.
That passion sparked the first time a childhood friend and I played Minecraft on his grandma’s old desktop computer. We quickly became obsessed, learning about mods and how to install them — even though most of them barely worked. I still vividly remember us scouring the internet for anything we could find, battling through broken mods and failed attempts. We spent hours trying to launch our first private Minecraft server using Hamachi to "port forward" and connect to each other's computers. The struggle was real, but those challenges turned into core memories. More than a decade later, I still look back on them fondly.
That same year, I told my parents that all I wanted for my birthday and Christmas was a computer — not just any computer, but the parts to build one myself. I handed them a list with prices, and thanks to their support, I was able to buy everything I needed. Then came the next challenge — I had no idea what I was doing. After watching countless YouTube videos, I finally managed to piece it all together. And just like that, a lifelong passion was born.
From there, I dove deeper into the tech world. I taught myself how to script for Garry’s Mod, made tons of custom mods, and even hosted community servers that gained a solid following. These days, I’ve built a fundamental understanding of several programming languages including C#, C++, Java, and various scripting languages. I’ve also created a pretty intense home lab network using Ubiquiti equipment, complete with physical and virtual firewalls. On top of that, I’ve turned our entire home into a smart home using a combination of homemade sensors and commercial devices like Aqara, Awair, and TP-Link — all integrated into Home Assistant running on a Home Assistant Green, complete with Zigbee and Z-Wave support.
Coming up soon, I’ll be tackling one of my biggest projects yet — wiring and setting up everything from scratch in our new construction home. I’m beyond excited for this challenge and will be documenting the entire journey right here.
